Beijing International Centre for Mathematical Research (BICMR) Invites Applications

BICMR is a mathematical research institute sponsored by the national government of China. It is located on the campus of Peking University. The centre was created in 2005 by decree of national government. Its main office buildings will be spread in seven Chinese classical houses with gardens on the north shore of the Weimin Lake on campus. This used to be a part of the royal palace, YuanMing Palace, and is the most beautiful part of Peking University campus. While the construction is on-going and is expected to finish in the summer of 2010, BICMR is temporarily running in Peking University Resources Building.

The construction of BICMR is funded by Chinese government and Peking University. The total office area is about 7000 m^2. Also the running cost and research fund of BICMR is mainly from the State through the Education Ministry.

BICMR runs its academic activities either independently or in association with other institutions, including those in higher education, especially with School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University.

BICMR's goal is to build a world-class mathematical center for research and training young talents ; to bring up a new generation of leading mathematicians of world class in China; to strengthen the application of mathematics to sciences and practical fields; to promote research and education level of mathematics in Peking University, as well as all over China.

The institute's academic Council on the boards is in charge of the talents recruitment and academic activities, of which the members are from both domestic and international renowned mathematicians. The Executive Board is responsible for the routine work in Centre.

We have the following positions:

1. Permanent senior faculty for established mathematicians.

2. Term position (3-5 years): Ranking can be assistant professors, associate professors or professors. Some of these are joint with the school, but they need to get a position from school which is evaluated by a separate committee from school. We use such a joint offer to strengthen the competivity (compensation or benefits or starting funds).

3. Postdoctoral positions.

Of course, promotion is possible even if one starts a lower level and move higher after a while. It depends on mathematical works. You are welcome to apply. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask us.
